Well – here we are – Sunday December 31, 2017- time for the last post of the year!
Today’s daily photo may seem somewhat boring, but I have come to realise that I enjoy the “deadpan” style of photography which merely captures what I see around me without any thought given to intent behind the photo. Deadpan exponents would have photographers emotionally detached from the subject which is an approach I quite like.
When I started out with my daily photo challenge (to myself) on January 1 2017 I didn’t realise how difficult it actually would be.
My initial objective was to take, and post, a photo a day – every day – for the full year. But even before I started I realised that to do so would be a big task, so I decided on just posting a recently taken photo a day – with the majority of them being taken on the day of posting.
Thanks goodness for my photo archives! They came into play quite often.
In retrospect I think I have done pretty well with about 90% of my daily photos being taken on the day! Or the day before….
For anyone interested in doing a 365-photo-a-day challenge bear in mind that it is tough going.
It can be motivating and demotivating at the same time.
There were so many times when I wanted to give up because:
- it was raining;
- I couldn’t be bothered;
- I didn’t know where to go to take a photo;
- I didn’t know what to take a photo of;
- it was raining again;
- I had other things to do’
- And so on….
Having said all that it can be exciting to see what you can come up with on the spur of the moment as the year long challenge can often move you out of your comfort zone.
Looking back over the year there are photos I’m glad I’ve taken, photos I wish I had never been bothered with, and one or two or more that I really like.
So please browse back through the year and see what you think.
This domain – www.dailyphoto.nz – will lapse and I will not be posting here again. I will continue to post over at www.rickharvey.nz from time to time.
In the meantime I wish you all a Happy New Year.
